Cookies and local storage
HouseChores, a product of MASONBYTE LLC · Accokeek, Maryland
In effect from 2 August 2026.
The short version
HouseChores sets no cookies. None today — not for analytics, not for advertising, not for us. That is why there is no banner in your way.
The app does keep a few small settings in your browser's own storage so it behaves sensibly when you come back. That is not a cookie: it is never sent anywhere, and nothing outside your own browser can read it.
What is kept on your device
All of it stays on your device, none of it is transmitted, and none of it identifies you to anyone.
| What | Why it exists |
|---|---|
| Which household you last looked at | So the right board opens first if you belong to more than one. |
| Whether this screen is a shared display | A wall tablet behaves differently from a phone. |
| Whether you asked to stay signed in | Your answer to that question, remembered. |
| Which release notes you have read | So the “what’s new” dot only appears when something is new. |
| Whether you dismissed the getting-started card | So it stays dismissed. |
| An invite code you are part-way through accepting | Held until you finish joining, then discarded. |
Clearing your browser data clears all of it. Nothing breaks — the app simply forgets those preferences.
Signing in also stores a session token in your browser, which is what keeps you signed in between visits. It is required for the app to work at all, and clearing it signs you out.
If a map or directions arrive
We are thinking about showing how long an errand takes, or a route to it. It is not built. Here is what we have promised in advance, so there are no surprises:
- If anything ever needs a cookie to work, we will list it here first — what it is and how long it lasts — before it is ever set. It would only ever be a cookie that makes the feature work, never one that tracks you.
- The way we expect to build travel time keeps only the number of minutes — no address, and no location of you or your home.
- A live, embedded map is ruled out for now: it would let another company see where you are just because the page loaded. The app is built to block that, so it cannot be added quietly.
Tracking, advertising, and analytics
There are none, and none are planned. No analytics, no pixels, no session recording, no advertising identifiers, and nothing that follows you to other sites. Should that ever change, you would be asked first — a consent banner would appear before anything was stored, rather than afterwards to explain a change already made.
Wanting to hear from you is not a reason to track you. Sending feedback needs no cookie, and none is set when you do.
